A major part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), was a massive implementation of the EMR in healthcare. The implementation of the EMR brought change to the care and documentation routines of many physicians as they attempt to concisely record a patient’s care in the tiny boxes on a computer screen.

To avoid the job of keyboarding, many physicians turned to speech recognition technology that automatically types what they say into the narrative boxes of the EMR.
