TORONTO & VANCOUVER--()--Grant Thornton LLP is pleased to announce that Don Thomson, C.A., has been re-appointed to the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) for a three-year term effective January 1, 2013.
The IESBA is an independent standard-setting body that serves the public interest by establishing principles of ethics for the 2.5 million professional accountants around the world, and by facilitating the convergence of international and national ethical standards, including auditor independence requirements, through the development of a robust, internationally appropriate code of ethics.
Members are appointed by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Board based on recommendations from the IFAC Nominating Committee and are approved by the Public Interest Oversight Board. The structures and processes that support the operations of the IESBA are facilitated by IFAC, the global organization for the accountancy profession dedicated to serving the public interest by strengthening the profession and contributing to the development of strong international economies.
The IESBA consists of a chairman and 17 volunteer members from around the world comprising representatives from IFAC member bodies, practitioners in public practice and other individuals with an interest in the work of the IESBA.
Don Thomson has been with Grant Thornton and predecessor firms since 1977, and is currently National Managing Partner, Quality, based in Vancouver. Nominated to the IESBA by the Transnational Auditors Committee of the Forum of Firms, he first became a member of the board in January 2010. Mr. Thomson is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is a past Chair and member of Canada's Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.
