NEW YORK--()--Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP announced today that it will officially open its office in Seoul, Korea in October 2012. The Firm’s registration with the Korean Bar Association as a Foreign Legal Consultant Office was approved on September 18, 2012 following the approval by the Korean Ministry of Justice.

For over 20 years, Simpson Thacher’s Korea practice has been active in capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and private equity investments, both public and private, inbound and outbound. The practice is well-balanced in providing legal services to issuers and underwriters, purchasers, sellers, lenders and financial and strategic investors alike. The Firm is also active in litigation and other dispute resolution matters on behalf of Korean and other clients in their matters involving Korea.
Corporate partner Youngjin Sohn will lead the Seoul office. He will be joined in Seoul by several associates who will relocate from the Firm’s Hong Kong office. “We are excited about this great opportunity to serve our clients at close proximity and confident that this will deepen and widen the Korean practice that we have built over the past 20 years,” said Mr. Sohn. Both Mr. Sohn and Mr. Park have been dedicated to Korean transactions for well over a decade.
Simpson Thacher’s Korea team consists of ten lawyers currently in Hong Kong, all of whom are completely bilingual in Korean and English and fully dedicated to work on Korean transactions. Simpson Thacher’s Korea practice is also supported by over 20 additional bilingual lawyers in its other offices.
