BURBANK, Calif.--()--PSI, an industry-leading provider of professional testing services, has successfully developed and administered an innovative new computer-based test for entry-level Firefighters. PSI developed the test for the City of New York, which was under a court order to provide a job-related and fair procedure for selecting candidates for the Firefighter job. The court recently approved the PSI developed exam, allowing the City to proceed with hiring.
“The new test brings together an unprecedented level of exam research and technology to successfully meet the challenges faced by the City of New York”
PSI designed the new test to measure the abilities necessary to succeed as a Firefighter. The test incorporates multimedia formats and innovative item types that allow candidates to demonstrate their capabilities in a more realistic manner than traditional paper-pencil tests. The development process demonstrated that the test was job-related and it was determined that the City’s use of the new test would have no adverse impact against any group.
“The new test brings together an unprecedented level of exam research and technology to successfully meet the challenges faced by the City of New York”, said John Weiner, PSI’s Chief Science Officer.
PSI administered the new test to more than 41,000 candidates in a 5-week period. PSI’s ATLAS™ computer-based testing system was used to deliver the exam in PSI’s PremierPLUS™ testing channel and several large specially created testing event centers. PSI administered the tests with a high degree of accuracy and security, leading to a successful implementation.
