FLINT, Mich.--()--Thunderstorm 2012, the third annual tournament hosted at Kettering University by the Kettnetic Thunder Ultimate Frisbee team, will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Harris Fields and Pavilion in Flint, Mich.
“The developmental team allows us to give more tournament experience to our younger players”
Ten teams will be competing in this year’s tournament, including two from Kettering. Kettnetic Thunder has added a developmental team this year because they’ve experienced so much growth.
“The developmental team allows us to give more tournament experience to our younger players,” said B-section team captain and president Ken Kaminski. “We can also require more qualifications for our primary roster this upcoming season and hopefully make that team even more competitive in tournaments.”
In addition to the two teams from Kettering, this year’s Thunderstorm also features teams from Grand Valley State University, Hope, Aquinas, Lawrence Tech, Wheaton and Kalamazoo colleges.
Kaminski said the goal of the tournament is to simply create a rewarding experience to attract other college teams and continue to come back. “We try to create a good schedule and a good environment,” Kaminski said, noting that food is provided to the teams and the first place winner receives a trophy disc, something that not every tournament gives out.
“Watching games is exciting and spectator-friendly,” Kaminski said. “It’s a unique sport and definitely a fit for Kettering.”
