Dramatic Achievement Gains at Inner City Schools Managed by Mayor’s Partnership for Los Angeles Schools

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools today reported strong Academic Performance Index (API) scores for its 22 historically underserved schools, with a network-wide increase of 34 points, outpacing average gains of the Los Angeles Unified School District, the State of California and many local charter networks.

If the Partnership, which is a part of LAUSD, were considered a school district in its own right, it would rank #1 among the 161 mid- and large-sized California school districts in terms of API growth. No other system with 10,000 or more students had gains above 30 points.

“These gains are a testament to the hard work and persistence of the thousands of students, parents, teachers and administrators who make up our Partnership,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who founded the Partnership in 2007. “Each and every one of them deserves recognition for this year’s outstanding success at the Partnership. I look forward to all of us building on this momentum and achieving even greater gains going forward.”

Other performance highlights include:

Jordan High School, in just its first year with the Partnership, achieved a 93-point gain
8 out of 22 Partnership schools are above the 80^th Percent Rank average API Growth amongst LAUSD schools
Jordan and Roosevelt ESP are in the 99^th Percent Rank with Jordan showing the highest gains amongst all LAUSD High Schools
99^th St Elementary and Santee Education Complex each have API gains exceeding 100 points during their four years with the Partnership
Ritter Elementary, Markham Middle School, and Hollenbeck Middle School have gains of more than 80 points over their four years with the Partnership
99^th St Elementary, Ritter Elementary, and Figueroa Elementary are approaching state target of 800
