ORLANDO, Fla.--()--SMC Networks, a leading provider of networking solutions for the complete digital home, announces its next-generation gateway products delivering unprecedented throughput and Wi-Fi performance. “We’ve also added the ability to host other applications on our gateway platforms, such as home security, media server and network attached storage applications, that complement MSO’s offerings.”
SMC has a long-standing history as a pioneer in the cable gateway space. The company is now building on that history with the launch of its next generation of gateway product platforms that deliver a cost-effective and exceptional wireless home experience.
SMC is expanding its gateway product platform with the introduction of the 5 Series. Featuring 8X4 DOCSIS 3.0 channel configurations with 3X3 Dual Band Dual Concurrent Wi-Fi and MoCA 1.1, the 5 Series will also significantly boost Wi-Fi performance across consumers’ homes. The 5 Series will be available for customer trials in the 4th quarter of this year.
In addition to the 5 Series launch this year, SMC will lead the market with 6 Series gateway products in 2013 featuring 16X4 DOCSIS 3.0 channel configuration and 3X3 Dual Band Dual Concurrent Wi-Fi. Explains SMC’s CEO Alex Kim, “The 6 Series will offer MoCA 2.0 as well as provide ubiquitous coverage and faster throughput across the entire home. For our MSO customers, the 6 Series will allow them to meet their customers’ increasing demand for IP services while also dramatically improving Wi-Fi network range and performance in the home.” Customer trials of select 6 Series products will start the first half of 2013.
Adds Kim, “The 5 and 6 Series launches set the stage for the future launch of our 8 Series gateway product platform, which will feature an unprecedented 24X8 DOCSIS 3.0 configuration, as well as DLNA Server File Sharing and optional video transcoding.”
SMC has engineered its new gateway products to enable cable operators’ future product offerings and business models.
