WASHINGTON--()--SusQtech, the nonprofit and commercial industry’s premier provider of Microsoft SharePoint solutions, support and training, hosted an Intranet User Adoption Roundtable at the offices of the Ocean Conservancy on September 25th in Washington, DC.
“People are naturally reluctant to change their behavior until they can be specifically shown how the change will make them more efficient. The Roundtable attendees came up with some great approaches to make that happen.”
CIOs, web strategists and leaders from the World Wildlife Fund, the Humane Society, the National Quality Forum, PhRMA, National Fish and Wildlife, Goodwill Industries, the Ocean Conservancy, the American Chemistry Council and Share our Strength came together to identify and expand best practices for improving staff adoption of their SharePoint-based Intranets. The event was moderated by Maggie Swearingen, Online Community Strategist at SusQtech.
The group focused on four key areas to increase user adoption:
1. Greater Emphasis on Positive User Experience and Site Design
2. Increased Site Personalization and Expanded Community Features
3. More Effective Marketing to Internal Audiences Regarding Intranet Benefits
4. Earlier and More Effective Staff Training Available through Multiple Channels
“User adoption is an especially difficult challenge because it involves asking users to change their core behavior,” said Swearingen. “People are naturally reluctant to change their behavior until they can be specifically shown how the change will make them more efficient. The Roundtable attendees came up with some great approaches to make that happen.”
The participants of the Roundtable discussion agreed to meet again in November to share lessons learned and to discuss executional progress at their respective organizations. Anyone interested in attending the event should contact the event coordinator at JuliaO@susqtech.com.
