BOSTON--()--Matchbox today announced plans to further its participation within the open source community through new hires, sponsorship of local and national meet-ups and workshops, and continued grassroots networking.
“I was drawn to the open source mind-set that permeates through every facet of the work environment here at Matchbox”
“I was drawn to the open source mind-set that permeates through every facet of the work environment here at Matchbox,” said Tim Branyen, a new open source development hire. “My goal is to build upon the stellar foundation already established by the development team by increasing Matchbox’s involvement within the open source community. I plan to incorporate my background as a core contributor to the Backbone.js project to provide new avenues for Matchbox to connect with their development base.”
Tim joins a team of proven developers at Matchbox who all bring their own unique skill-sets to the table. Specifically, Tim will contribute to the front-end web architecture working in JavaScript and HTML5, as well as maintain the overall web framework. Attending conferences such as PyCon, he and the team are able to continually improve upon their API built on the high-level Python web framework Django, streamlining the iOS app’s responsiveness with their cloud-base server.
“Matchbox was founded on an open source platform from its inception,” said Stephen Marcus, founder and CEO of Matchbox. “When we add new developers to our team, we are looking for someone that not only understands the culture we are trying to foster here, but is actively engaged in contributing to the larger open source community. Tim is the perfect example of someone who fits that mold. When we interview potential new hires, we want to look at code they have written almost more than their resume. Do you have a GitHub account? What meet-ups do you attend? How can we incorporate code you have written into our back-end? These are the questions we want to be asking.”
Matchbox has partnered with open web technology company Bocoup to produce their first planned meet-up on October 23, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Sponsored by inbound marketing authority HubSpot and crash reporting solution Crashlytics, the meet-up will be hosted at Bocoup Labs at 355 Congress Street in Boston. Developers wishing to participate can learn more on the Backbone.js meet-up page.
