CHICAGO--()--For the New York Metro Area, third quarter 2012 data showed a drop of (-24.6%) in new construction projects that were actively bidding compared to the same period one year ago. In a bright spot of otherwise bad economic news, the same year-over-year analysis revealed that private construction projects experienced an increase of 8.2%, while public construction dropped (-31.9%). The findings were just released by the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI).
In a quarter-over-quarter analysis for both private and public projects combined, the third quarter 2012 BCI data found that there was a decrease of (-23.9%) in overall construction projects that were actively bidding.
BCI also found that total private projects out to bid dropped (-9.8%) in a quarter-over-quarter analysis, while public construction also dropped (-27.9%) in the same period.
The regions surveyed in the BidClerk Construction Index study were New York, Northern New Jersey, and Long Island.
