Anthem Manchester City Marathon and Half Marathon Celebrates Six Years in the Running

MANCHESTER, N.H.--()--Over 2,000 runners from across the world will tackle a new course in the 6th annual Anthem Manchester City Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, November 4th.

“We are very excited about the new course for this year’s race”

Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas along with officials from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire and the Manchester Marathon Association held an announcement event today at city hall to share plans for this year’s event.

“For six years, the Anthem Manchester City Marathon and Half Marathon has brought thousands of runners and race fans to the Queen City,” said Gatsas. “These athletes come from all over the world to take part in this race. The marathon is a great way to show off the city of Manchester and focus on our city’s heath and well-being.”

The race on Sunday November 4th caps off a weekend of special activities, including: the Anthem Sports & Wellness Expo and the Anthem Kids’ Marathon in downtown Manchester the day before the marathon. Marathon legend Bill Rodgers will also make many appearances during the weekend.

This year, the runners will be hitting the pavement on a whole new race route. The course will take them through the Queen City’s renowned Mill Yard and up towards the North End, past many of Manchester’s landmarks. Twists and turns along the 26.2 mile course will bring the runners through the West Side, and include beautiful views of Lake Massabesic.

“We are very excited about the new course for this year’s race,” said Sarah Normand, Race Director, Manchester Marathon Association. “After listening to feedback from runners, we’ve redesigned the course and can’t wait to see how the athletes like the new route and the new challenges.”

Leading up to the race, the Anthem Manchester Marathon & Wellness Weekend is packed with enjoyable and entertaining events for runners, their families, the community and local business owners. Registered runners and the general public are invited to attend the FREE Anthem Sports & Wellness Expo on Saturday, November 3rd at Manchester’s Radisson Hotel. The Expo will feature exhibits that focus on living a healthy lifestyle. Also, the Anthem Kids’ Marathon will take place on Saturday, November 3rd. This is a culmination of fitness activities supported by online tools aimed at getting children across New Hampshire to become more active and eating healthier.

“All of us at Anthem are so proud to not only be the lead sponsor of the marathon, but to be involved in events that promote active and healthy lifestyles for both children and adults,” said Lisa M. Guertin, president, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire. “Dozens of our associates also participate as runners or volunteers. This is a terrific event for Manchester and our community at large.”

This year’s marathon takes place on Sunday, November 4th. For details on race registration or vendor opportunities at Anthem Sports & Wellness Expo, please visit www.manchestercitymarathon.com.
