PITTSFIELD, Vt.--()--For the first time, Spartan Race, the world’s leading obstacle race and Outside magazine’s Best Obstacle Race in 2012, will take over New York City’s famed Times Square, giving the public an opportunity to watch and cheer as elite athletes test themselves against the best. The Spartan Race Times Square Challenge, an invitational demonstration featuring hundreds of New York’s fittest competitors, is set for Thursday, Nov. 1, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., at Duffy Square (between 46th and 47th Street), in Manhattan.
“The event will feature some of Spartan’s most beloved (and feared) obstacles, including a muddy barbed wire low crawl, traverse walls, tire flips – and of course, being pummeled by Spartan ‘gladiators’ – all to prove they have what it takes to call themselves Spartans.”
“Expect the unexpected!” said Spartan Race founder Joe Desena. “The event will feature some of Spartan’s most beloved (and feared) obstacles, including a muddy barbed wire low crawl, traverse walls, tire flips – and of course, being pummeled by Spartan ‘gladiators’ – all to prove they have what it takes to call themselves Spartans.”
Spectators no doubt will be inspired watching competitors like Team X.T.R.E.M.E. (www.team-x-treme.org) with U.S. Marine Sergeant Jonathan Mozingo, amputee of the left leg below the knee, and Marine Corporal Todd Love, trimembral amputee of both legs above the knee and left arm below the elbow, as they compete head-to-head with many current Spartan champions and other top athletes.
Winning male and female finishers will receive a free pass to the 30+ Spartan Races planned for 2013 throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia.
