Colorado Representative Scott Tipton Visits Westwood College and Sees Hands-on Learning in Action

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rep. Scott Tipton, from Colorado’s 3^rd District in the U.S. House of Representatives, visited Westwood College on Monday, Oct. 1 as part of his statewide tour of businesses, institutions of higher education and community organizations. Rep. Tipton’s visit to Westwood was intended to help him gain a better understanding of the hands-on education Westwood provides its students.

During his visit, Rep. Tipton toured Westwood’s Denver North Campus and sat in on a Cisco Networking Academy class as well as a Rube Goldberg competition during which students were tasked with making a complex machine to perform a simple task. Rep. Tipton, who serves on the House Committee for Small Business, also met with representatives from companies that have hired Westwood graduates as well as with Westwood leadership to learn how a proprietary, career college differs from more traditional state-funded institutions.

Tipton how we can effectively serve a nontraditional student body that includes many who have tried and determined that community colleges or traditional universities are not the right fit for them, work full-time and often are older and have children at home.”
