The Boston Home to Honor Biogen Idec CEO George Scangos at Gala

DORCHESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Boston Home's 2012 Innovation & Inspiration Gala will take place on Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter in South Boston. Senator John Kerry is the Honorary Chair and Maureen Feeney and Bill Walczak are the Gala co-chairs. Tickets are $250 and available at thebostonhome.org.

At the Gala, Biogen Idec's CEO George A. Scangos, Ph.D. will be presented with The Boston Home's Excellence in Care Award for his leadership role in the biotech industry and his commitment to people living with multiple sclerosis.

About George A. Scangos, Ph.D.

Lynn native George A. Scangos, Ph.D. was appointed CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Biogen Idec in June 2010. Previously he was President and CEO and a director of Exelixis, Inc., President of Bayer Biotechnology and a Professor of Biology at Johns Hopkins University, where he remains an Adjunct Professor. Dr. Scangos holds a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University, a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts, and was a Jane Coffin Childs Post-Doctoral Fellow at Yale University.
