Nashville Business Journal’s “CFO Awards” honor Middle Tennessee’s leading financial professionals for their outstanding performances as corporate financial stewards. Clarke is nominated in the small private company category – one of five categories determined by company size and business sector. The winners, who were announced on Oct. 15 at the 2012 CFO Awards Dinner at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tenn., will be highlighted in the Oct. 19th issue of Nashville Business Journal.
“Great chief financial officers do much more than just handle the numbers for a company. They are involved in all aspects – from helping guide corporate strategy to helping the company operate more efficiently and effectively,” said Kate Herman, president and publisher of Nashville Business Journal. “This year’s group of CFO of the Year finalists are prime examples of that.”
With more than 17 years of experience, Clarke is a veteran of the financial industry with expertise in financial management, business development, operational management, strategic planning, banking, process development, mergers/acquisitions and risk management. In his role, Clarke has helped migrate the corporation from a mortgage broker to a mortgage banker, implemented new origination and servicing systems, recruited and developed a retail branch network, and had a hand in many other processes responsible for the overall improvement of the lender. Prior to joining Churchill Mortgage, Clarke worked with Tenn.-based CNA Insurance Companies and Nashville, Tenn.-based Massachusetts Mutual.
Clarke serves on many industry and community boards, including Mortgage Partners of America, Real Estate Services of America and The Shalom Foundation Community Development. He is president of The Churchill Agency and ICAN Foundation and is part of the advisory boards for Lenders One Mortgage Cooperative and Ellie Mae. Clarke is also former president and board member of the East Williamson Athletic Association.
“For almost 10 years, Matthew has been a key player in Churchill’s sustained development, driving our responsible growth that operates on a ‘no-debt’ premise and solid foundation,” said Mike Hardwick, president of Churchill Mortgage. “His dedication to Churchill’s advancement is evident in our record-setting 20th year. Matthew is a true financial leader committed to our company and the Middle Tennessee business community.”
