MINNEAPOLIS--()--U.S. Bank is participating in National Protect Your Identity Week (PYIW). This nationwide event takes place October 20 through October 27, 2012. The theme for this year’s Protect Your Identity Week is “Identity Theft Protection on the Go!”
“U.S. Bank is a supporter of identity theft education and prevention efforts, and our branches across the company’s 25 state retail footprint are participating in PYIW through various activities”
According to the Federal Trade Commission, the fastest growing crime in America today is identity theft. Nearly 25 million Americans fall victim to fraud and identity theft annually, with the financial toll near $50 billion. The best way for consumers to protect themselves from identity theft is to learn about it and take precautions.
“U.S. Bank is a supporter of identity theft education and prevention efforts, and our branches across the company’s 25 state retail footprint are participating in PYIW through various activities,” said Erica Opstad, vice president and manager of U.S. Bank’s Office of Corporate Citizenship & Financial Education. “Customers who visit a U.S. Bank branch can ask for information on identity theft protection. Some branches will be hosting free document shredding, seminars for senior citizens or identity theft prevention workshops. Anyone can go online and visit U.S. Bank’s YouTube page at www.youtube.com/usbank and watch ‘TMI: Tami’s Adventures in Online and Personal Security,’ a series of one minute videos featuring Tami, who shows viewers what NOT to do when trying to protect their identity.”
Other organizations participating in PYIW include AllClear ID, the PYIW 2012 presenting sponsor; the Jump$tart Coalition, National Sheriff’s Association and National Association of Triads, Incorporated.
