CHICAGO--()--For major-metro regions in Florida, including: Jacksonville, FL; Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, FL; Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL; Tallahassee, FL; Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL, the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI) reported that there was an increase in construction projects that were actively bidding. This increase was for both private and public construction projects, which was evident in year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter analysis.
Overall, construction activity that was actively bidding experienced an increase of 9.6% compared to one year ago. Private construction activity rose 19.0%, while public construction rose 4.3%. In a quarter-over-quarter analysis for all construction projects that were actively bidding, the major-metro regions in Florida experienced an increase of 12.3%. Third quarter public projects saw an increase of 20.8% compared to the second quarter of 2012, while private projects increased 1.4% over the same period.
In a year-over-year analysis for the Miami region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding rose 10.8% compared to one year ago, with private projects increasing 22.4% and public projects increasing 4.4%. A quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in Miami experienced an increase of 12.3%, with private and public construction projects rising 2.8% and 19.3%, respectively.
In a year-over-year analysis for the Orlando region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding dropped (-4.4%) compared to one year ago, with private projects decreasing (-3.1%) and public projects decreasing (-5.6%). A quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in the Orlando region experienced a decrease of (-3.3%), with private and public construction projects dropping (-4.5%) and (-2.2%), respectively.
In a year-over-year analysis for the Tampa-St. Pete region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding rose 24.5% compared to one year ago, with private projects increasing 23.7% and public projects rising 24.9%. A quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in the Tampa-St. Pete region experienced an increase of 16.9%, with private construction decreasing (-9.1%) and public construction rising 37.8%.
Nationally, BCI found that combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased 3.0% in the third quarter of 2012, compared to the same quarter a year ago. BCI also found that third quarter 2012 public construction increased modestly, rising just 0.2%, while third quarter 2012 private construction jumped 12.3%, year-over-year.
