BOSTON--()--Health Dialog today announced that three of its patient decision aids, designed to lead individuals through a Shared Decision Making process with their doctors, were recognized for excellence at the National Health Information Awards (NHIA).
“Sleeping Better: Help for Long Term Insomnia”
The recognized resources were “Cataracts: Is Surgery Right for You?” (booklet), “Help for Long-term Sleep Problems” (short web video), and “Should You Have an X-Ray, CT Scan, or MRI?” (short web video). The “Help for Long-term Sleep Problems” video is part of the company’s broader multi-media decision aid, “Sleeping Better: Help for Long Term Insomnia”, which was recognized by the NHIA in 2011. The “Should You Have an X-Ray, CT Scan, or MRI?” video is embedded both in Health Dialog’s “Acute Low Back Pain” and “Chronic Low Back Pain” multi-media decision aids.
“It is an honor to have our Shared Decision Making® aids recognized by leading organizations and associations,” said Peter Goldbach, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Health Dialog. “We strive to continually offer patients unbiased, up-to-date information on common medical conditions so they can make the healthcare choices, big and small, that best align with their preferences, values, and lifestyles.”
Health Dialog’s library of patient decisions aids covers a broad range of topics and is part of the company’s approach to Total Population Health. At some point in every person’s life, he or she will face one or several significant medical decisions. The suite of aids has collectively garnered the company 16 industry awards in 2012 alone and more than 100 industry awards in total. Materials are available online and also in DVD and booklet formats, to appeal to different learning styles. The decision aids are currently available to more than 15 million individuals and are disseminated as part of Health Dialog’s broader health management programs.
Now in its 19th year, the National Health Information Awards program honors high-quality consumer health information. A panel of consumer health experts from across the nation judges the entries on content, format, success in reaching the targeted audience, and overall quality. The awards program, which recognizes materials and programs developed for use by consumers, is organized by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health professionals who work in consumer health education fields.
