BURLINGTON, Mass.--(Arcadia Solutions, a leading provider of data-driven Health IT services, announced today it will host a roundtable discussion on the Massachusetts Healthcare Cost Containment Bill that Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick recently signed into law and is scheduled to become effective on November 5, 2012. The new law fundamentally changes the way healthcare will be delivered in Massachusetts and will provide residents of the state with lower health care costs and an increase in the quality of care.)--
The Healthcare Cost Containment Bill is projected to save local taxpayers, government and businesses more than $200 billion over 15 years as it caps the cost rate in which healthcare increases year to year. Healthcare costs have been rising at an unsustainable rate in Massachusetts, and nationally, requiring a bold effort to reign in the costs. In 2006, Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to pass comprehensive healthcare legislation mandating coverage for its citizens. As a result, Massachusetts has the highest percentage of residents with healthcare at approximately 98.5 percent. Shortly after Massachusetts passed its groundbreaking legislation, the Affordable Care Act was accepted in Washington D.C., largely mirroring the Massachusetts law.
Consulting firms like Arcadia Solutions work closely with major payers and providers within the state of Massachusetts, as well as nationwide, to assist practices in implementing the proper protocols to fulfill the guidelines within these mandates. In an effort to explore the new law, Arcadia Solutions Vice President and former Massachusetts State Representative Charles Murphy, who helped move the Healthcare Cost Containment Bill forward, will moderate a roundtable discussion of industry thought leaders to discuss their unique perspectives on the bill and learn how the healthcare industry will have to adapt to this new paradigm in order to succeed. Panelists include:
- Dr. Ralph de la Torre, M.D, Chairman and CEO, Steward Health Care System, LLC
- Jay Gonzalez, Secretary of the Executive Office for Administration and Finance
- Steve Walsh, State Representative and Chairman, Healthcare Finance Committee
- James Vallee, Attorney, Nixon Peabody and former House Majority Leader
- Dr. Cormac Coyle, M.D, CEO, Emerald Physicians Group
This hosted luncheon will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Waltham, Mass.
