Mintz Levin Attorney Nancy D. Adams Elected Vice President of Prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society

BOSTON--()--Nancy D. Adams, CPCU, a Member of the Insurance/Reinsurance Group, Risk Management & Executive Protection Group, and Product Liability and Complex Tort Litigation Group of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., has been named the 2012-2013 Vice President of the international Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Society. Ms. Adams will be President-Elect in 2013-2014 and President of the 24,000 member CPCU Society in 2014-2015. She is the sixth woman to hold the office of Vice President and ultimately President in the organization’s 68-year history.

Ms. Adams officially assumed her role as Vice President at the organization’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. September 8-11.

The CPCU Society is a membership organization of credentialed insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. The Society's members hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, which requires passing eight rigorous undergraduate- and graduate-level examinations, meeting experience requirements, and agreeing to be bound by a strict code of professional ethics.

Ms. Adams previously served as Secretary of the international organization. She is also a former president of the Boston Chapter of the CPCU Society and teaches a number of CPCU courses.

Ms. Adams has extensive experience representing and advising primary and excess insurers on the business and legal implications of a variety of complex coverage issues involving personal and commercial lines of insurance. Her experience includes representing insurers with respect to coverage disputes arising under directors and officers, professional liability, managed health care, aviation, fiduciary, financial institutions, crime, automobile, homeowners, and general liability policies. Her practice has involved representing insurers in state, bankruptcy, and federal courts across the country.

Ms. Adams also advises corporations and individuals in a wide range of risk management issues. Her experience includes conducting exposure and risk analysis and implementing insurance and other risk transfer mechanisms to address those exposures and risks. Ms. Adams regularly works with corporate boards preparing insurance program audits and reviews, drafting director/officer indemnity agreements to complement the company’s existing insurance program, identifying and addressing various insurance-related issues that arise in the road show and IPO context, and conducting insurance and indemnity due diligence for corporate transactions.

Ms. Adams is a trustee of the Insurance Library Association of Boston. She is also a co-chair of the Emerging Issues Subcommittee, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee and Litigation Section of the American Bar Association.
