Lincoln Park Dentists Take a Stand on Sugar While Boosting Troops Morale this Halloween

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lincoln Park’s Westend Dental is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Westend Dental at 1170 West Armitage Avenue from Thursday, November 1 through Saturday, November 3 and receive $1 per pound (limit 10 lbs per person). Doctors David Fiore and Matt Zander are leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and dental health kits in exchange for cavity-provoking candy.

“Ditch the candy and visit your dentist twice a year!  Brushing daily and flossing are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost,” says Dr. Matt Zander from Westend Dental. “Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well.”

Kids’ global sugar consumption increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids’ teeth are being cared for more than ever. Globally, most children shows signs of bleeding gums, or gingivitis, while among adults, the initial stages of periodontal disease are prevalent. Reducing sugar intake can have a dramatic impact on your overall dental health.  In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

Candy will be collected at Westend Dental Thursday, November 1, and Friday, November 2, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, November 3 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The candy must be unopened. It will then be shipped to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude. Offering a sweet treat to our hard-working soldiers can provide just the boost of morale that is needed while they are so far away from their families.
