OAKLAND, Calif.--()--Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced significant successes following the SPARCS N4 terminal operating system (TOS) go-live at Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT). From January 29, 2012 to date, AGCT has transformed its business with the use of SPARCS N4 and 3G wireless technology, driving significant improvements in crane productivity, energy usage and idle truck times.
“The stakes were extremely high for this project, and Navis was by far the best TOS provider to help us meet our goals”
“The stakes were extremely high for this project, and Navis was by far the best TOS provider to help us meet our goals,” said Sebastiano Cerneka, IT manager, Adriatic Gate Container Terminals. “Not only were we able to launch SPARCS N4 two days ahead of schedule and under budget, but we’ve seen continued successes well past the go-live. Over the past several months, we have been able to achieve higher port efficiency and decrease our operational costs overall as a result of implementing SPARCS N4.”
AGCT, an ICTSI Group company, is the largest port and container terminal in Croatia serving Central and Southeast European countries such as Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Czech Republic and Poland. The SPARCS N4 deployment was part of an extensive $30 million EUR expansion and development plan in which AGCT also made the switch from Wi-Fi to 3G technology for mobile devices used in the field.
Combining SPARCS N4 optimization modules with the reliability of 3G has enabled AGCT to complete full electronic B2B transactions as well as achieve faster and more accurate information flow between business partners and shipping lines. Operationally, the organization has reached several critical milestones since the SPARCS N4 go-live. Chief among them, AGCT has reduced the average idle truck time from three hours to just 15 minutes. Additionally, CHE liters per move decreased by 25 percent, driving new efficiencies in equipment utilization never achieved before by the terminal.
“Optimization and mobility in terminal operations is the wave of the future, and Adriatic Gate Container Terminals has earned a spot among some of the most advanced facilities in the world,” said Bill Walsh, president and CEO, Navis. “We had the pleasure of having Mr. Sebastiano Cerneka present a case study during our Navis World 2012 conference, and the response from attendees was incredible. We are proud to be such an instrumental part in helping AGCT reach new levels of success with our TOS.”
SPARCS N4 is Navis’ latest generation TOS, allowing customers the flexibility and scalability needed to run their operations – from a single terminal to multiple terminals across different geographic locations managed from one central location.
