ATLANTA--(First Data Corporation, a global leader in electronic commerce and payment processing, today announced that it has joined the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of major corporations that have jointly committed to hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020. This action is consistent with First Data’s long history of supporting its military employees and their families.)--
“Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve”
“We have always taken great pride in hiring, retaining, supporting and recognizing service members in our organization,” said Peter Boucher, executive vice president of Human Resources. “Joining the 100,000 Jobs Mission reinforces our commitment to investing in our people and the communities in which we live and stands behind our belief that acquiring talented individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, such as those in the military, give us a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”
First Data’s military pay policy exceeds the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) requirements, and the company continues employee and enrolled family members’ medical and life insurance benefits during deployments. First Data has recently reinvigorated its veterans recruiting strategy by hiring a retired veteran as the Employment Program Manager to develop programs to support and broaden service members and military veterans recruiting efforts. First Data invests in military friendly job boards and is committed to actively participating in veteran-focused career fairs as well as career expos on military installations.
“The value of having a veteran on our Global Talent Acquisition team will provide the internal relationship needed to advise hiring managers, recruiters and HR personnel on translating military skill sets and on the benefits of employing transitioning service members and military veterans,” said Janelle Bergquist, senior vice president, Global Talent Acquisition. “With our supportive benefits and a management team equipped to effectively recruit military personnel, First Data is well positioned to welcome qualified transitioning service members and military veterans to our workforce.”
First Data has been a long-time supporter of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency and renewed its support of members of the Guard and Reserve employment by signing a “Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve” on Aug. 1, 2012. Additionally, First Data has received numerous awards in association with the ESGR, including the prestigious Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the Nation’s highest award for supportive employers.
“We are excited to be part of the 100,000 jobs coalition and step up our efforts to hire those who have served our country,” said Boucher. “We recognize the important role our service members take on for our country, and respect the values, leadership, dedication and unique skills they can bring to our global team.”
