1st Annual Young Professionals Conference

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Young Professionals Committee of the Houston CPA Society is proud to announce that the 1^st Annual Young Professionals Conference will be held Friday, November 9, 2012. The conference will take place at the Society offices at 777 Post Oak Blvd.

“The Benefits of a Trained Memory: Total Recall Techniques for CPAs.”

The Young Professionals Conference is uniquely designed to provide CPAs, CPA candidates and accounting students aged 40 and under with topics that are highly relevant to their career and life stages. Attendees will receive 8 hours of CPE credit.

Register by October 31 to be entered to win one of three $100 early registration cash prizes. Other door prizes will be awarded throughout the conference, culminating with a drawing for a brand new iPad mini at the end of the conference!

Harold Mangum will address the topic “The Benefits of a Trained Memory: Total Recall Techniques for CPAs.” Mr. Mangum is a long-time cognitive memory skills psychologist and has presented his techniques to conferences and companies for more than 20 years.

Jamie Belinne will present “Managing Conflicts in Work Teams with Diverse Personalities.” Ms. Belinne is the Assistant Dean for Career Services at the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business.

Jim Langsdale, the Director of Business Development for Grant Thornton, will engage the group with a host of networking best practices during his presentation entitled “Building Your Own Personal Brand.”

The conference will also feature a panel of young professionals who have excelled in their various career paths within the accounting profession. Sheila Enriquez, an audit shareholder at Briggs & Veselka Co., will moderate the discussion. Panelists will include:

The concluding speaker of the day will be Chuck Cummings. Mr. Cummings has been named by Money magazine as one of the best tax practitioners in Houston. His presentation, “Leadership That Counts,” is one of the most popular CPE presentations in the state.
