SAN FRANCISCO--()--Pantech, one of the world’s top handset manufacturers for the Android platform, has selected Mocana to secure Pantech’s newest line of Android handsets and tablets, Mocana announced today. Pantech is using Mocana’s VeloDAR™ solution to tightly integrate FIPS 140-2 certified encryption capabilities into their new Android handsets. Mocana VeloDAR protects data-at-rest (DAR) on the internal memory of the Pantech device, as well as any data stored on SD cards used with the device.
“Customers are becoming more demanding when it comes to security, and carriers are setting high security bars, too”
“Customers are becoming more demanding when it comes to security, and carriers are setting high security bars, too,” said Pantech COO Joon Woo Lee. “Mocana’s solutions make it much easier for us to comply with security requirements from different carriers in our United States and European Union markets. Our research tells us that consumer and enterprise end-users want the new security features, too, so we believe these new product lines will prove to be quite popular.”
Mocana’s VeloDAR is a highly optimized data-at-rest encryption solution that leverages Mocana’s government-certified FIPS 140-2 Level 1 cryptographic module, NanoCrypto™. VeloDAR is designed for Android device manufacturers, enabling encryption capabilities well beyond what is natively available in the Android OS, and is the industry’s most optimized DAR encryption solution for such devices. The result is a high-performance, efficient encryption solution with virtually zero performance penalty. Device manufacturers can be confident that their device will meet the stringent security needs of carriers, consumers, enterprises, and government agencies because of VeloDAR’s FIPS 140-2 certification, plus the advanced AES-CBC and AES-XTS crypto engines.
Mocana VeloDAR is an important component of Mocana’s Security Detail™ for Android, a comprehensive industry-first suite of security software, services, and expertise that enables OEMs to build secure Android devices with confidence. This suite also includes VeloDAR’s sister solution, Mocana VeloVPN™ Client, the industry’s most complete IPSec VPN Client for Android device manufacturers and end user customers. With Security Detail, device manufacturers can shift their focus back to core product design, user experience, and other innovation.
Pantech will include the Mocana VeloDAR encryption in upcoming upgrades for several of its most popular handset and tablet models, including the Pantech Flex. The Flex offers a unique dual experience system that runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The standard Android format is available for the customer who wants instant access to a wide range of their favorite features – social media sites, email, video and more.
In addition, Flex provides the “Easy Experience” mode, which prioritizes customers’ apps on the home screen in a clearly organized and easy-to-read format. Easy Experience users can enjoy an intuitive experience without sacrificing any of the latest in smartphone technology. Flex weighs only 4.6 ounces and has a slim design that makes it easy to slip into a pocket or purse. Flex features a full touch 4.3-inch HD Super AMOLED display for a vibrant picture and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. The intelligent SwiftKey keyboard technology makes typing a breeze – it minimizes keystrokes by learning a user’s natural language for more accurate word predictions and corrections. Flex also features an eight-megapixel rear facing camera with 1080p HD video recording capabilities and a two-megapixel front facing camera.
“Android users need to be especially careful these days,” said Kurt Stammberger, CISSP, Mocana’s vice president of market development. “One of the most important things a consumer or enterprise user can do to protect themselves is to enable data-at-rest encryption on their device. Pantech has tightly integrated Mocana VeloDAR to create handsets that defend their own data and help look out for their users in even the most sensitive use cases.”
