BACKGROUND:

Raley’s announced on Friday, Oct. 26, its intention to impose unacceptable concessions on its Union workers beginning Nov. 1.

UFCW 8-Golden State and UFCW Local 5 have been negotiating with the company for more than a year in hopes of negotiating a collective bargaining agreement addressing the legitimate needs of the company and the workers. "Unfortunately, Raley’s irrational and erratic negotiating tactics — under the direction of an outsider who appears to be more interested in undermining the Union than reaching a fair and equitable contract — threaten to take the company off a cliff," said UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall.

The Union already has received authorization by the membership for a strike as well as strike sanctions from the UFCW International Union and other appropriate labor organizations.

UFCW 8 will be mobilizing over the coming days to prepare for its response to this latest careless provocation. Meanwhile, the Union is prepared to begin a dialogue at any time to reach a settlement worthy of recommendation to the membership.
