MIAMI--(Senzari® today announced the acquisition of Disco Volante, the innovative Berlin based music startup and creator of mobile music service wahwah.fm. Disco Volante was spun off from Deutsche Telekom Innovation Laboratories in Berlin after pioneering technologies for the legal co-listening of radio stations across mobile devices.)--
“I’m really excited about joining Senzari in order to leverage all their technologies and resources to take the vision of wahwah.fm to a completely new level”
Wahwah.fm was launched in 2011 and operates in the German and US markets, where it garnered great accolades from the press, including receiving awards for Next ’11 Elevator Award, Digital 5 Radio Innovation Award and the Mobile Premier Award at Barcelona’s World Mobile Congress. The startup received funding from leading German investors including Hasso Plattner Ventures and other local Internet entrepreneurs.
As part of the transaction, Philipp Eibach, wahwah’s CEO will assume the role of Senzari’s VP of Music Services and MD of Senzari Germany, working directly with the US team on the development of Senzari’s next generation music services and expanding the team at the Berlin office. The Berlin office will focus on extending Senzari’s service to iOS, Android and Windows devices, as well as continuing the data science work on its large scale music data set involved in AMP3, the Company’s proprietary music recommendation platform.
“We have been following wahwah’s mobile radio service from the day they launched since we knew several of the seed investors of Disco Volante,” explained Bill Hajjar, Founder and CEO of Senzari. “After meeting the team we realized we shared a common vision, to approach the music space in innovative ways, so we decided to join forces to accelerate the expansion of Senzari internationally and across mobile platforms."
Senzari Germany has established a new office in Berlin’s Betahaus, where the teams are already working on the first mobile version of Senzari, due to launch in the coming months. The company expects to expand the Berlin team to about 10 engineers in the next 12 months.
“I’m really excited about joining Senzari in order to leverage all their technologies and resources to take the vision of wahwah.fm to a completely new level,” stated Philipp Eibach. “I really like the fact that Bill and Demian Bellumio, Senzari COO, have a tremendous sense of urgency that permeates to the entire team. As we signed the deal documents, we were already signing the new lease and working on the specs for the new version of Senzari, leveraging the experience of both sides.”
Senzari will be unveiling the initial concept of Senzari mobile at LeWeb Paris on December 4-6th, along with the latest version of its AMP3 engine and other exciting products that the Company has been developing for publishers around the world.
