About the Annual Salute
Each year the school honors its veteran students and alumni for Veterans Day with an event that showcases both their service and their creative talents in Game Production, Computer Animation, Recording Arts, Entertainment Business and Filmmaking. This year, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, an exclusive “Up Close and Personal With…” event will feature a panel with Engineers Brian Malouf, Tony Maserati and Dave Schiffman, who have styled the music of artists such as Madonna, Prince, The Black Eyed Peas, Mariah Carey, Pink, Johnny Cash and Tom Petty, among others. The 3rd Annual Salute will also feature “Game On with Operation Supply Drop: An 8-Bit Salute to the Troops,” a single-elimination Medal of Honor: Warfighter tournament for veteran students in conjunction with gaming military charity Operation Supply Drop and production company Shifted2U Productions.
The National “Got Your Six” Campaign has also created a signature panel event for the school’s 3rd Annual Salute afternoon roster, “The Entertainment Industry & Non-Profits: They’ve Got Your Six.” A panel discussion on entertainment industry initiatives supporting Veterans and their families will be held on campus in front of the Military Services Department. From Veteran hiring programs currently existing at multiple studios, to non-profit partners of the national Got Your Six campaign, partners of Got Your Six are here to help our servicemembers through the often difficult process of re-integration. To wrap up the daytime enrichment activities, The Los Angeles Film School’s Annual Salute “Game and Film Audio Exclusive,” will be presented by BAFTA and Oscar-winner, Stephen Flick, and game and film sound award winning engineer Jamey Scott.

About the GI Film Festival
The GI Film Festival (GIFF), www.gifilmfestival.com, a 501(c)3, is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to sharing and preserving the military experience in and out of the arena of war. The GIFF provides a forum for new and established international and domestic filmmakers to present their films that share the heroic stories of the Armed Forces and the worldwide struggle for freedom and liberty. Owing to its success in fostering a positive image for the American GI, in 2010 the GI Film Festival was awarded with the American Legion’s National Commander Public Relations Award (previously awarded to media greats such as Tim Russert, Jack Valenti and Tom Brokaw). The GI Film Festival is the first film festival in the nation to exclusively celebrate the successes and sacrifices of the servicemember through the medium of film and TV. The GI Film Festival Hollywood is unique to The Los Angeles Film School’s Annual Salute, restricting submissions for the festival solely to Veteran above-the-line talent. Fellow Veteran filmmaker talent, in attendance at the event takes the lead to determine the peer awards.
About the Semper Fi Fund
The Semper Fi Fund (SFF) www.semperfifund.org, is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance and quality of life solutions for Marines and Sailors, as well as members of the Army, Air Force and Coast Guard who serve in support of Marine forces, when they become injured in post 9-11 combat or training operations, or they face life threatening illness or injury. The fund provides relief to qualified Service members and their families for immediate financial needs that arise during hospitalization and recovery, as well as perpetuating needs such as home modifications, customized transportation and specialized equipment. The Semper Fi Fund’s streamlined structure keeps overhead very low – at 5% – understanding every dollar saved can be put to better use elsewhere. The American Institute of Philanthropy has given them an “A+” rating and Charity Navigator has awarded them the “Four Star” rating, the highest awarded by each organization.
