MIAMI--()--DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL, announces four employees have been selected as winners of the 9th Annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. The categories honoring the four DHL Global Forwarding employees are Women Helping Women, Female Executive of the Year and Female Employee of the Year. The honorees reinforce the company’s efforts to promote diversity in the workplace and women in leadership positions.

Kim Petersen, DHL Global Forwarding’s Newark Branch Manager, went home with the Gold award for Female Employee of the Year. The Female Employee of the Year award recognizes the achievements of non-executive female employees. Kim was honored for instilling a work environment that always puts the customer first, and also for her work in the community. In 2009, she established a partnership between DHL Global Forwarding and West Side High School in Newark, which entails mentoring and providing future job opportunities for some of the high school’s students.
“It is a great honor for me to be selected as the Gold award winner for Female Employee of the Year,” said Kim Peterson. “This award was not only for me but also for my colleagues at the Newark station who work tirelessly to obtain exceptional results. The award is also of great importance because it will allow our mentor program with West Side High School to gain greater visibility and hopefully expand in the future.”
Carol Sheldon, Global Customs Head and Senior Vice President of Customs Brokerage and Regulatory Compliance for DHL Global Forwarding, won a Silver award for the Women Helping Women category for her work leading the DHL Dynamos, a walking team that raises money for breast cancer awareness. This category recognizes the achievements of women who have provided support and assistance to other women in their communities. Also a Silver winner for Female Executive of the Year, her vision to streamline processes and increase efficiency helped her establish a new office of more than 300 employees in Columbia, South Carolina, to centralize customs brokerage activities.
For the Female Executive of the Year Canada, Donna Letterio, CEO for DHL Global Forwarding Canada, was honored with a Bronze award. A 25-year logistics industry veteran that leads by example, Donna is exemplified by her risk taking, perseverance and successful expansion of the company’s product portfolio. Under her leadership, her team has received a number of company-wide awards. She also serves as the President of the Board for the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association.
Also, for the Female Employee of the Year category, Melissa Anderson, District Manager for the DHL Global Forwarding Portland, Oregon office, was recognized with a Bronze award. She has been instrumental in having her team earn work accolades year-after-year for new business wins and ideas submitted for company-wide implementation. This includes having the Portland station she oversees recognized among all the North America stations for their outstanding financial results.
The 2012 winners were announced at an awards dinner at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on Friday, November 9.
