Online flirting: Washington D.C. named U.S. capital of flirting; D.C. women America’s flirtiest

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Women in Washington D.C. are America’s flirtiest – and the nation’s capital is also the U.S. capital of flirting, according to a study of online flirting conducted by Badoo.com.

The women of D.C. are chattier to men online than women in any other U.S. city, reveals a study by Badoo.com, the world’s largest social networking site for meeting new people, with over 165 million users.

Badoo’s statisticians measured female response rates to male approaches on Badoo.com, analyzing patterns from over 2.5 million online interactions in the U.S. and 147 million worldwide.

They found that women in women in Washington, D.C. were more likely than women elsewhere to respond to male attention online – maybe suggesting that power really is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

“No matter how much the world has changed, men are still more likely than women to make the first approach online,” suggests Louise Thompson Director of PR for Badoo, a site for flirting, dating, chatting and meeting new people. “We wanted to know whether women in some places were more likely than in others to chat with interested men.”

The study of Badoo’s 10 largest U.S. cities found that women in Washington, D.C. were over twice as likely to respond to male approaches as those in LA, Houston, New York or Miami.

“Maybe men in Washington simply know better than other American men how to start an online conversation with a woman,” says Thompson.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the flirtation table, women in Los Angeles and Houston proved the hardest for U.S. men to engage in online conversation.

When Badoo looked beyond the U.S., it found that French women were Europe’s hardest to engage in online conversation and Czech women the most likely to respond to male attention. Peruvian women, however, turned out to be the globe’s most selective of all when responding to male online attention.
