CIO at Tower Group Companies Wins Award for Efforts in Technology and Business

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Agencyport Software congratulates Mr. Salvatore Vincent Abano, senior vice president and chief information officer at Tower Group Companies, who was honored with an Elite 8 Award by Insurance & Technology at the annual ceremony in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. The award recognizes eight leaders annually in the P&C, life and health insurance sectors who have displayed successful implementation of technology in the overall business objectives of their companies.

Under Mr. Abano’s leadership Tower Group had grown from a northeast regional carrier into a $2 billion nationwide P&C player that uses technology to reduce costs. He joined Tower in June 2008, and currently manages the IT organization with more than 400 employees and supports 45 systems across 17 branch offices. Prior to Tower, Mr. Abano had a successful and prestigious military career, including an assignment as the U.S. Army’s CTO for the central region of Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Tower was the very first client to use Agencyport’s software in both the admitted and E&S business areas. When Mr. Abano joined Tower his vision for the organization included a number of strategic initiatives to create transparency, streamline technology spending, foster accountability and improve business/IT collaboration. In short, he wanted to establish IT as a dependable business partner to the organization.

To meet this goal, Tower and Agencyport joined forces to create detailed risk, claims and accounting templates for personal and commercial lines and integrate them with Agencyport’s Alchemy product. Under Mr. Abano’s leadership and following his strategic vision, this project helped to streamline the program business data acquisition and internal data analysis by the finance, underwriting and actuary teams at Tower Group Companies.

Mr. Abano received an M.B.A. in Business Management and Technology from Regis University in 2003, and is a graduate of Brooklyn College, The City University of New York, where he received a B.S. in Computer and Information Science in 1986.
