EATONTOWN, N.J.--()--Artificial Medical Intelligence (AMI) today announced the expansion of its EMscribe® evaluation and management (E&M) coding software, now completely driven by Natural Language Processing (NLP). This innovative solution is designed for hospitals, clinics, physician practices, healthcare company partners and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) vendors.
“Effective Evaluation and Management Coding is key to accurate and timely reimbursement”
Unlike other E&M coding solutions that require physicians or coders to select from a dubious range of pick list alternatives, and ICD codes generated by traditional language word spotting methods, EMscribe E&M software does not require coder or physician intervention due to its proprietary NLP technology. AMI’s innovative approach incorporates all the necessary and vital criteria to code patient encounters mirroring existing physician processes but eliminating the coding bias which often leads to under coding to mitigate payment denials. The technology is “aware” of the entire patient/physician encounter including past, present and future events that are documented within the medical record and their relative impact on E & M levels.
Using similar natural language tools that are at the core of AMI’s EMscribe Computer Assisted Coding solution, E&M reads through the entire patient encounter and provides a comprehensive explanation of the E & M level including all work performed and time durations. This means EMscribe E&M also provides a precise audit trail. The technology also allows for a comparative analysis of patient encounters between suggested E&M CPT codes and manually derived E&M codes. Through its back end database, the technology can be set up to spot under-coding or over-coding trends initiated by the physician, coder or facility.
“Effective Evaluation and Management Coding is key to accurate and timely reimbursement,” said Stuart Covit, chief operating officer at Artificial Medical Intelligence. “Many physicians and hospitals lose revenue every day because they purposely under code their services to offset denials. With EMscribe E&M’s strong auditing capability, physicians and hospitals are able to provide strong enough justification for valid E&M levels for the services provided. AMI’s next generation NLP technology breaks new ground and can significantly help Health Information Management mitigate the complexities of processing patient records through accurate and timely reimbursement. With the onset of new coding systems like ICD10 and the accompanying regulatory pressures from payers, the archaic days of solely relying on manually coding the patient chart are being forced to come to an end.”
AMI’s EMscribe E&M is nimble technology and available through several different delivery models:
- It can be licensed as a separate capability (API) and provided through a specially designed web interface which allows incorporation of the technology to other healthcare applications such as EMRs or other programs.
- It is available as part of AMI’s EMscribe Computer Assisted Coding solution either as on-premise installed software or as part of a deployment within any hospital or clinic data center site.
- It is available as Software as a Service (SaaS) hosted solution where the customer licenses the E&M component or entire EMscribe CAC software and a third party runs the software for the customer.
AMI’s EMscribe E&M is available immediately. The product can be seen at the upcoming HIMSS Conference March 3-7 in New Orleans.
Founded in 2002, Artificial Medical Intelligence is a healthcare informatics software developer focusing on increasing efficiency within Health Information Management. Its patent pending core solution, EMscribe, provides suggested coding and abstractions using Natural Language Processing for both the inpatient and outpatient encounter. EMscribe® is also now processing the E & M level with its next generation NLP algorithms for both the professional and facility based patient encounter. The innovative solutions are very adaptable and can automate certain patient record types with no coder input needed. The technology can also automatically abstract Principal and Admit Diagnoses. NLP is used to generate Present on Admission diagnoses, and Hospital Acquired Condition, as well as a variety of other patient values, thus making it the most comprehensive hospital tested HIM-Coding solution available. AMI’s solutions are targeted at hospital healthcare facilities, larger clinics and physician practices that are looking to automate process management and improve the processing of medical documents. The Powered by EMscribe® technology is available to partners and is sold directly to hospitals nationwide. The company is headquartered in Eatontown, New Jersey.
