ExpertPages 2012 Survey Reports Expert Witness Fees Reach New Highs -- “It’s Great Work if You Can Get It”

SAUSALITO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The average hourly fees earned by Expert Witnesses and Litigation Consultants reached a new high of $314 per hour in 2012, according to the results published in ExpertPages.com’s 2012 Fees and Practices Report released today.

Physicians again topped the list as the experts earning the most per hour -- an average of $429. Tech experts (Computers/Internet/Technology) were a close second at $414 per hour, yet at $46,196 earned the highest average fee per assignment, followed by business experts at $30,644.

ExpertPages 2012 Fees and Practices Report was complied from confidential responses to a detailed survey of 540 experts nationwide. The expert fields surveyed included accounting, automotive, business, employment, engineering, food handling, handwriting, health care, insurance, product safety, technology and various forensic fields. Experts from the Northeast generally earned higher hourly rates than their counterparts in other regions. He noted 57% of the physicians surveyed spent more than 90% of their professional time practicing medicine and less than 10% doing expert work. However, for experts in some forensic fields, such handwriting analysis and document examination, expert work is pretty much full-time.
