Globoforce Survey: More Americans Satisfied with Recognition at Work

SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. & DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Globoforce^® (www.globoforce.com), the world’s leading provider of social recognition solutions, today announced the results of its Fall 2012 Globoforce Workforce Mood Tracker™, a semi-annual survey that provides insight on the current attitudes of U.S. workers. According to the Fall 2012 survey*, workers’ satisfaction with recognition rose 22 percent over the past 12 months (from 49 percent to 60 percent). To download the full report, click here.

This increase in employee satisfaction coincides with steady gains across several metrics. Looking at the trend lines in the past 12 months, the survey finds workers are more likely than ever to love their jobs, feel appreciated, and feel fairly rewarded. Between Fall 2011 and Fall 2012, the percent of employees who:

Feel appreciated rose from 61 percent to 67 percent
Love their job jumped from 51 percent to 64 percent
Say people are fairly rewarded (by performance) increased from 41 percent to 48 percent

According to the Globoforce Workforce Mood Tracker, recognition is a significant contributor to that satisfaction, with 82 percent of survey respondents reporting that receiving recognition makes them more satisfied with their jobs. The Fall 2012 survey results also show the strong impact of recognition frequency. Of employees who had received recognition within the last six months:

78 percent report loving their job, compared to 49 percent who had not received recognition within the last six months
56 percent describe themselves as “highly engaged,” compared with 33 percent who had not received recognition within the last six months
18 percent said they are searching for a new job, compared with 33 percent who had not received recognition within the last six months

* The Globoforce Workforce Mood Tracker study was commissioned by Globoforce and conducted on September 27-October 2, 2012 by independent market research firm MarketTools, Inc., through an online panel of fully employed persons (age 18 or older) at companies with 500+ employees in the United States.
