ROANOKE, Va.--()--Based on the belief that everyone deserves a healthy smile, the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation recently awarded its inaugural oral health grants to 36 organizations across the Commonwealth totaling more than $1.1 million.

The Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation has awarded its initial grants to programs that have a significant impact on improving oral health with sustainable solutions through improved access to oral care, oral health education or oral health research.
Organizations eligible to receive grants include governmental agencies or educational institutions, entities holding a 501(c)(3) tax-exemption, or organizations with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt fiscal sponsor. The Foundation was created with an initial $2.5 million donation from Delta Dental of Virginia.
The grant application period was held June 1 through September 30, 2012. The Foundation board of directors reviewed proposals and made grant decisions, with the funds being distributed beginning in December 2012.
