SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(HDMI Licensing, LLC, the agent responsible for licensing the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI®) Specification on behalf of the HDMI Founders, today marked the 10-year milestone of the release of the first HDMI Specification. “With over 1,300 Adopters and 3 billion devices shipped, the penetration of the HDMI interface in consumer electronics, PC, and mobile devices is nothing short of a phenomenon”
What began as a way to simplify the mass of cables for connecting home theatre equipment has expanded to include a broad array of devices in markets and applications beyond the home—including automobiles, traditional B2B environments and mobile devices, all with the crystal clear digital-quality and single-cable simplicity consumers have come to expect. The HDMI Specification’s entire ecosystem — 3 billion devices based on ever-improving technology, backward compatibility, product interoperability and worldwide testing, compliance and enforcement resources — makes it a preferred and profitable option for an ever increasing set of manufacturers.
“With over 1,300 Adopters and 3 billion devices shipped, the penetration of the HDMI interface in consumer electronics, PC, and mobile devices is nothing short of a phenomenon,” stated Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. “We look for continued success as more and more products are connected to transmit and receive high definition content.”
