BioForward Collaborates with UW Students in PR Campaign

MADISON, Wis.--()--When students go out into the world and encounter new experiences, rarely will they have a manual telling them exactly what to do. In an environment that favors memorizing principles, equations and conjugations, it’s hard for students to see the big picture. They may learn the facts and memorize the essentials, but falter when applying it to real situations.

“The interaction with the association and students not only promotes the science, it also gets experience for the students. This is where the developing of the future talent pool begins.”

BioForward, Wisconsin’s leading voice in the biotechnology field holds a firm presence in the growth of the industry and the legislative environment. They have partnered with students in the Life Sciences Communication program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to foster real world experiences. After meeting with BioForward to prioritize their goals and objectives, students worked to create a strategic marketing communications plan.

“The goal is to take what we’ve been learning about in class and put it to use in the real world,” said Sarah Botham, faculty associate and instructor of the class, Life Sciences Communications in the Life Sciences Industry (LSC 270). “Not only do the students benefit from real-world experiences, companies like BioForward can also receive an outsider’s perspective on effective ways to reach their marketing communication goals.”

“We’re excited to use the information provided to us moving forward,” said Bryan Renk, executive director at BioForward. “The interaction with the association and students not only promotes the science, it also gets experience for the students. This is where the developing of the future talent pool begins.”

BioForward hopes to extend this partnership into the future to not only benefit their own organization but to add value to their current and future members. The students hope to create a base for BioForward to build off of and to really create an impact that will outlive the course itself.
