CHICAGO--()--For major-metro regions in the Southwest U.S., including Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale, AZ; Prescott, AZ; Tucson, AZ; Yuma, AZ; Las Vegas-Paradise, NV; Reno-Sparks, NV; Albuquerque, NM; and Santa Fe, NM, the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI) reported a very small 0.6% increase in private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in a year-over-year analysis. Private construction activity decreased (-5.1%), while public construction rose 4.4%, turning around last quarter’s trend, when public construction dropped (-6.0%) year-over-year.
In a quarter-over-quarter analysis for all construction projects that were actively bidding, the major-metro regions in the Southwest experienced a 4th quarter 2012 decrease of (-4.9%). Fourth quarter 2012 private projects were down (-12.0%) compared to an increase of 15.4% in the 4th quarter of 2012. Public construction increased just 0.2% over the same period, after decreasing (-12.5%) in BCI’s 3rd quarter 2012 report.
In a year-over-year analysis, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding in the Phoenix region decreased (-3.4%) compared to an increase of 30.0% reported the previous quarter. In a quarter-over-quarter analysis, the BCI found that Phoenix construction activity decreased (-10.6%).
In a year-over-year analysis for the Las Vegas region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased slightly, climbing 1.4%, compared to a 7.9% increase reported last quarter. In a quarter-over-quarter analysis, the BCI found that Las Vegas construction activity increased 8.0%.
In a year-over-year analysis for the Albuquerque region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased dramatically, up 22.4%, compared to a decrease of (-34.1%) reported the previous quarter. A quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in the Albuquerque region experienced an even larger increase, up 55.0%.
