ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.--()--Paul Nunziato, President of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association (PAPBA), representing 1,300 Port Authority police officers, is proud to announce the PAPBA’s endorsement of Governor Chris Christie for re-election.
“I know the citizens of New Jersey can count on Port Authority police officers to protect them, and I know I can count on Governor Chris Christie’s support of my police officers”
“Governor Christie has stood by the officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and understands the commitment we make every day to protect the safety of New Jersey residents at area airports, bridges, tunnels, ports and within the PATH system and World Trade Center,” said Nunziato.
“Governor Christie is a strong, decisive leader, most recently displayed during skillful handling of the challenges brought to our area during Sandy,” added Nunziato. “As the former United States Attorney after September 11th, Christie understands that the Port Authority’s assets are among the most vulnerable terror targets in the world, and have already been attacked. He appreciates the great sacrifice we have made and has stood with us, both as US Attorney and now as Governor. For that, we’re proud to stand with him and endorse him for re-election.”
Support from Governor Christie in the post 9/11 world is of utmost importance to the police officers of the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD). These police officers are reminded every day of the dangers they face by the memory of the 37 Port Authority police officers killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, the largest, one-day loss of life suffered by any police department in the history of American law enforcement.
“I know the citizens of New Jersey can count on Port Authority police officers to protect them, and I know I can count on Governor Chris Christie’s support of my police officers,” concluded Nunziato.
The Port Authority Police Department patrols facilities in both New York and New Jersey including the region’s major airports, PATH system, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels, George Washington, Bayonne, Gothals and Outerbridge Crossing Bridges, and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The PAPD also operates the nation’s largest and busiest Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF) unit along with one of the nation’s largest police K-9 explosives detection units. The PAPD has 1,599 sworn law enforcement officers with jurisdiction throughout New Jersey and New York. The PAPD is the second largest police force in New Jersey and is among the largest in the nation. The Port Authority Police Benevolent Association represents more than 1,300 members holding the rank of police officer in the Port Authority Police Department.
