CHICAGO--()--For major-metro regions in Ohio, including Akron, OH; Cincinnati-Middletown, OH-KY-IN; Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor, OH; Columbus, OH; Dayton, OH; Toledo, OH; and Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA, the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI) 4th quarter 2012 report revealed that there was a continuing decline in construction projects that were actively bidding. The decline was evident in both private and public construction activity.
Overall construction activity that was actively bidding experienced a decrease of (-10.8%) compared to one year ago. Private construction activity dropped (-20.9%) compared to a (-5.8%) drop reported by the BCI in the 3rd quarter of 2012. Public construction dropped (-6.5%), compounding a (-14.6%) decline reported by the BCI in the previous quarter.
For all construction projects that were actively bidding, BCI’s quarter-over-quarter analysis of the major-metro regions in Ohio reported a decrease of (-25.1%). Fourth quarter 2012 private projects experienced a decrease of (-28.6%), compared to a 3rd quarter drop of (-6.1%). BCI’s quarter-over-quarter analysis also showed that public projects decreased (-23.8%) compared to the third quarter of 2012.
In BCI’s year-over-year analysis, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding in the Cleveland region increased 29.7%, reversing a decrease of (-5.0%) reported in the 3rd quarter of 2012. A BCI quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed a slight increase of 4.7% for overall construction activity in the Cleveland region.
In a year-over-year analysis for the Cincinnati region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding decreased (-15.1%) compared to one year ago, as shown by the BCI. BCI’s quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects in the Cincinnati region experienced a decline of (-23.3%).
In a year-over-year analysis for the Columbus region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding declined (-28.6%) compared to one year ago. BCI’s quarter-over-quarter analysis revealed that combined private and public construction projects that were actively bidding in the Columbus region experienced a steep decrease of (-37.2%).
