Aggreko Provides Power and Heating for Presidential Inauguration

WASHINGTON, D.C.--()--Aggreko, the world leader in rental power and temperature control solutions, has provided power generation and heating systems for events, telecasts and related security arrangements surrounding the Presidential Inauguration on Monday, January 21st. Aggreko provided similar services for the last four Presidential Inaugurations.

“It was an honor for Aggreko to once again provide our rental power and temperature control solutions for one of the most significant events in American public life”

“It was an honor for Aggreko to once again provide our rental power and temperature control solutions for one of the most significant events in American public life,” said George Long, Senior Project Manager, Aggreko Event Services. “Due to the complexity and tight time frame of the inauguration, our experienced technicians worked around the clock to ensure installations were planned, implemented and flawlessly executed.”

Aggreko provided power and heating for the press tents, audio delays, National Mall security, the VIP area at Lafayette Park, as well as a tented venue for the National Day of Service, a special service fair encouraging the public to join its approximately 100 charitable and community service groups. In addition, Aggreko powered the press areas, video and audio along the parade route, and the security screening area at the Pentagon.

Powering an event of this magnitude, which hosted approximately 700,000 attendees, required a considerable deployment of equipment and manpower, including:

  • 10.2 MW of electricity, enough to power 300 medium-sized American homes
  • 4,800 kW of heat, enough to warm 320 medium-sized homes
  • Approximately 30 miles of cable - nearly enough to stretch from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore
  • More than 25 experienced Aggreko technicians from across North America

The company sourced equipment from its nationwide network of service centers, and began installation on January 8th, only 11 days before the inaugural weekend began. Aggreko’s crew has already begun removing equipment and plans to have all generators and heat sources removed within five days.

“Installations of this magnitude normally take months to plan,” said Long. “However, because of our experience in large-scale critical applications, the expertise and experience of our technicians and Aggreko's extensive inventory, we were able to pre-plan, design and install the power and heating systems in a radically reduced time frame, while still being flexible and sensitive to our client's needs.”

Aggreko plc is the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control solutions. Aggreko employs over 4,500 people operating from 165 locations. In 2011 we served customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately GBP 1.4bn (USD 2.2bn or Euros 1.6bn). Aggreko plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange (AGK.L), is a member of the FTSE 100 index, and is headquartered in Scotland. For more information, please visit the company website at www.aggreko.com.

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems. We serve our customers either through our 165 service centers, which we call the Local business, or globally through our International Power Projects business.

In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Recent customers include the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.

In 2011 we fulfilled almost 43,000 customers’ assignments and when researched, 69% of them gave us a recommendation of 9 or 10 out of 10.
