“The 2013 Presidential Inaugural Conferences were a huge success for our scholars, and we’d like to congratulate and thank the outstanding mix of U.S.-based and international college, high school and middle school students who participated in this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said John Richards, Chief Executive Officer of Envision EMI. “These Presidential Inaugural Conferences are unmatched in the real-life learning experiences they bring to our scholars, and we are very pleased to continue delivering these high-quality educational opportunities. These programs show that hearing firsthand from prominent speakers, witnessing history in the making, and interacting intellectually and socially with thought leaders and other highly motivated students leave a lasting impression on students.”
The 2013 Presidential Inaugural Conferences had approximately 3,525 scholars, hailing from all 50 U.S. states plus Washington, D.C., Guam and 27 additional countries, in attendance. The yellow scarves of the more than 800 students attending the Middle School conference could be seen on the National Mall during the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
“The drive to ensure that our scholars have the best possible experience is evident in every aspect of our programs, and the Envision EMI team of experienced educators is fully complemented by the team’s commitment to operational excellence,” said Regan Lamb, Executive Vice President of Education. “Setting the bar higher in this competitive world is a focus for our scholars and our team alike, and we believe the 2013 PIC was an incredible experience for all.”
The five-day, invitation-only conferences that ran from January 19th through the 23rd featured keynote addresses from leading political figures, including General Wesley Clark, the Honorable Jeb Bush, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Jenna Bush Hager, Barbara P. Bush, James Carville, and Mary Matalin, in addition to collaborative activities with political experts, historians and analysts from both sides of the aisle and private gala celebratory events. On Inauguration Day, when the President and Vice President each took the oath of office and the President gave his inaugural address, Inaugural Scholars had exclusive early access to the Air and Space and Natural History Museums, and witnessed the inauguration ceremony on the National Mall.
Dr. Marguerite C. Regan, Dean of Academic Affairs for the Presidential Inaugural Conference, said, “As educators, we have witnessed time and again the power of bringing highly motivated students to our nation’s capital for this historic event and further enriching the experience with talks from political luminaries and interactive learning sessions, where scholars can be challenged and inspired by everyone around them, and the possibility of making lasting friendships with other high achievers from around the world. We look forward to 2017 when we can do it all over again, with a group of impressive students from around the globe, inspiring speakers and the best programs.”
