In January 2013, an average of 100,000 new users signed up for Lumosity daily and Lumosity’s mobile app was downloaded nearly 50,000 times per day. Over 17 million unique U.S. visitors accessed the site, making Lumosity.com one of the top 500 most visited websites in the U.S. Lumosity’s mobile app ranks consistently in the top Apple iTunes App Store charts, and this month reached number one in the Education category for both free apps and top grossing apps, and was one of the top 10 free apps overall.

The first stage of Lumosity’s mobile strategy is the launch this quarter of an updated iPhone app that offers users an improved mobile brain training experience. Mobile users will receive a personalized guided brain workout each day. The company’s 2013 mobile plan will also include an expansion to the iPad and Android platforms, as well as the addition of several new games to the mobile experience.
Lumosity’s membership currently spans 180 countries, and the company plans to offer the program in several languages to accommodate its growing non-English speaking users.
“We’re committed to helping people from all walks of life remember more, think faster and perform better in everyday life, and part of that goal is to be able to provide all of our members with the full Lumosity experience in their native language,” said Sarkar. “This internationalization will also allow us to study human cognitive performance with more academic researchers, neuroscientists, teachers and clinicians around the globe to learn more about the real-life application of cognitive training.”
Lumosity’s research program, the Human Cognition Project, works with over 1,500 researchers worldwide to study human cognitive performance. Its technology supports both experimental research, where collaborators design and conduct studies on the effects of computerized cognitive training, and observational research, where collaborators explore data from Lumosity’s database. Lumosity also provides a program for schools K-12 called the Lumosity Education Access Program (LEAP), which investigates the effects of cognitive training on students’ performance. The program provides free Lumosity subscriptions to teachers for use in the classroom and has served over 12,000 students to date.
