SAN FRANCISCO--()--Young Americans have fun an average of 12 days month – more than young Canadians, most Europeans and even Brazilians, according to the world’s first study to rank countries by how often they have fun.
“This makes Argentines the world champions of fun”
Americans rank sixth of 17 countries globally, the highest English-speaking nationality, in the first global fun league, compiled by the social networking site, Badoo.com (www.badoo.com) ahead of next week’s New Orleans Mardi Gras and Saturday’s start of the world-famous Rio Carnival.
“That’s impressive given that the founding fathers were Puritans, not famed for their pursuit of fun”, says Louise Thompson, Director of PR for Badoo, a social networking site for chatting, flirting, dating and meeting new people, with over 170 million users across 180 countries.
The real secret of having fun, however, appears from Badoo’s findings to be living somewhere hot, ideally in Latin America and preferably Spanish-speaking.
Argentinians and Mexicans top Badoo’s global fun rankings, while Poles and Russians rank last, with neither having much fun at all. “This makes Argentines the world champions of fun”, says Thompson.
Badoo asked 17,000 mainly young people in 17 countries and four continents, “How often do you really have fun and a good time?”
The 12 days per month of fun enjoyed by Americans places us ahead of Canadians on 10 days but behind Mexicans on nearly 14.
Almost a third (31%) of Americans report having fun “most days” – compared to 23% of Canadians and 37% of Mexicans.
Americans also have more fun than not just the British and French but also both the Italians and Brazilians.
“Fun is an essential part of life”, says Thompson. “The ability to have fun is both an art and a talent.” If so, suggests Badoo’s findings, it’s one Americans possess more than most.
