CHICAGO--()--Tru Fragrance, a leading fragrance development company, today announced the results of its second annual Valentine’s Day survey. Released just ahead of the most romantic day of the year, the results offer insight as to how Americans navigate the rocky road of romance. Divulging differing views on all aspects of love, sex and dating, the findings include first date feelings, which city offers the most romantic backdrop for a date and where America’s sexiest citizens can be found.
“Romance and intimacy have forever been tied to fragrance – scent is and has always been the ultimate way to make a statement without ever having to say a word”
The first date has long been considered the Holy Grail of dating. With many Americans about to take the leap of faith with someone new on Valentine’s Day, a common thread of activity ran through the country when first date preparation was put to the test:
- A whopping 94 percent think scent is essential to a great first impression and wear fragrance on the first date
- 85 percent go on a first date looking for a relationship that will last the distance
- 72 percent admitted they will kiss on a first date
“Romance and intimacy have forever been tied to fragrance – scent is and has always been the ultimate way to make a statement without ever having to say a word,” said Monte Henige, CEO of Tru Fragrance. “True to what we fragrance experts believe, this survey proves Americans use scent to captivate others and make a lasting first impression from the first date – no matter where you are!”
However similarities for the U.S. dating landscape ended there, with locality having a significant impact on first date behavior – from dollars doled out, to venue and pre-date research:
- A curious bunch, nearly 84 percent of those in the Northeast complete pre-date online research, compared to 58 percent in the Southeast
- Midwesterners shell out the big bucks from the beginning and are the most likely to impress by spending $200 plus on a first date, whereas those from the Southeast prefer to ease into something new and spend between $25-50
- Drinks at a new hot spot trump first-date dinner plans in the Northeast with almost 54 percent saying a cocktail bar makes for the ideal venue, compared to a romantic dinner for two being top of the list around the rest of the country
The survey by Tru Fragrance also sought to find what Americans think of the dating and singles scene across the nation:
- 42 percent of those surveyed say New York City’s skyline steals the show for the most romantic backdrop for a date, while Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, was rated the least romantic setting to woo
- For those looking for a fling, the exotic nightlife and hot beaches of Miami take the top spot
- Los Angles took home the prize for the city with the sexiest residents, narrowly beating out Miami
