“We are truly honored that Teladoc was recognized by Fast Company as one of the companies shaping the future of health care,” said Jason Gorevic, Teladoc’s chief executive officer. “We are dedicated to addressing the largest issues in health care by enhancing the patient experience through a high-quality, convenient, cost-effective solution. We are very proud to be recognized for our innovative health care solutions along with health care leaders such as Walgreens, Athenahealth and GE Healthcare.”
Every year, the Fast Company team spends months gathering and sifting through data, to identify those enterprises that exemplify the best in business from across the country and around the world. The end result is a package that dares to be different, emphasizing not just revenue growth and profit margins but also progressive business models and an ethos of innovation. In addition to the Top 50 Most Innovative Companies, Fast Company also ranks the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in ten categories, including Big Data, Entertainment, Finance, and Food – all which are featured in the March print edition and on FastCompany.com.
Teladoc continues to grow and bring innovative solutions to the marketplace. Performing over 120,000 medical consults annually, Teladoc’s membership has increased by more than 250 percent in 2012, reaching 5 million members while working with large clients and partners such as Cash America, CHG Healthcare Services and Aetna.
In November 2012, Teladoc partnered with Continuum Health Partners and its member hospitals to improve access to primary care and offer telehealth services directly to individuals in New York City. Branded with Beth Israel Medical Center, the program offers access to Continuum’s physicians either by telephone or secure online video. If a Beth Israel physician is unavailable, a physician from the Teladoc network conducts the consult.
Teladoc’s service is an affordable alternative to visiting an emergency room when a patient is unable to visit their doctor, such as after office hours, and is not a replacement for their primary care physician. Through the service, patients speak with a board-certified, state-licensed physician either through the phone or online video for $38 or less. Patients may receive treatment for non-emergency medical issues, such as allergies, bronchitis, pink eye, sinus problems, and ear infection. Physicians may also write short-term prescriptions for non-controlled substances if medically appropriate.
