SAN DIEGO--()--On March 26th, Transition Expo San Diego will bring military leaders with undergraduate degrees – and some of the area’s most talented service members – to the front lines of business, as this one-day event connects these highly-sought-after job candidates with local businesses looking to recruit proven leadership experience. The expo brings together current and former military service members interested in pursuing civilian careers with local employers and graduate schools that can offer opportunities for advanced education and manager-level employment.
“Military Experience & CEOs, Is There a Link?”
A number of independent studies validate the performance job candidates with both military leadership and a graduate degree can add to an organization’s human capital and organizational capabilities. Employment data released by Military MBA in November 2012 revealed leaders who left the military and earned MBA degrees realized an average of 12% more in annual compensation in comparison to their civilian counterparts. The study also found the job placement rate for military-with-MBA job candidates within three months after graduation was 93.5 percent, further suggesting a greater employment demand for such candidates.
The findings of two additional studies – “Military CEOs” from Harvard and MIT economists, and “Military Experience & CEOs, Is There a Link?” from Korn/Ferry International and The Economist – show businesses run by former-military CEOs in S&P 500 companies financially outperform other businesses, achieving higher average returns on the S&P 500 Index, performing better during industry downturns, and reducing corporate investment in capital and in R&D. With a Navy installation and two Marine Corps bases nearby, the San Diego area is teaming with highly-skilled job candidates who possess the leadership experience and skills organizations need to maneuver through a still-delicate economy and achieve mission-critical results. San Diego companies are uniquely positioned to tap into this valuable pool of human capital first, before other cities and local economies entice them away.
Transition Expo San Diego will be hosted by the MBA-EMBA Programs at San Diego State University on March 26, 2013. Cost of attendance is $35, an early-bird special through February 25th, which includes morning presentations, afternoon exhibits, and annual membership fees. Attendees will gain valuable insights into planning careers from qualified experts who discuss the most important aspects of searching for civilian employment and evaluating various types of graduate degrees. Exhibits allow attendees to put their plans into action by speaking directly with top hiring managers and admissions representatives of graduate schools. Due to space requirements, participation is limited to the first 200 attendees who register. For more information and to register, go to transitionexpos.com.
