CEA Commends FCC Action to Increase Wi-Fi Deployment

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In response to today’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to increase the amount of spectrum available for unlicensed devices in the 5 GHz band, the following statement is attributable to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)^®:

The Commission’s proposal will expedite ultra high-speed, high-capacity Wi-Fi in support of the U.S. innovation economy. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski originally announced the Commission’s proposal during his one-on-one session with Shapiro during CES. This proceeding will accelerate the growth and expansion of new Wi-Fi technology and offer consumers faster speeds and less network congestion at Wi-Fi hot spots.
