High School and Transfer Students Invited to Tour Hurley Medical Center During “Co-op Is The Best Medicine” Open House with Kettering University Monday, March 4, in Flint

FLINT, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hurley Medical Center (www.hurleymc.com) will co-host an open house for high school students called “Co-op Is The Best Medicine” with Kettering University on Monday, March 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will be at Hurley Medical Center, One Hurley Plaza, Flint, Mich., 48503.

“Co-op Is The Best Medicine” is a free event for high school students who are interested in medicine’s many career paths and want a personalized look inside Flint’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and home of the new Hurley Children’s Hospital.

“This is an incredible opportunity for any high school student who is interested, or even curious, about whether one of medicine’s many options might be a good career path for them,” said Alexandria Petit, who graduated from Kettering University in December and has already been accepted to Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine this fall. “This is a truly unique opportunity for an insider’s look, and I hope high school or transfer students will take advantage of it,” Petit said.

“They will get to hear about the Hurley-Kettering Scribe program, how to qualify for the program and the privilege of being an undergrad student working in a hospital. A highlight of the tour will be the new Emergency Department that opened just last March.”

During the two-hour session, participants will have an opportunity to tour Hurley and ask questions of Kettering co-op students. Kettering University staff will be on-hand to provide information and answer questions.

Kettering University offers an innovative education in engineering, math, science and business disciplines. The “Kettering Advantage” program balances highly targeted experiential learning with professional cooperative education, creating a formula in which students alternate between in-classroom learning and full-time co-op employment.
