NEW YORK--()--Harvey Nash, a global executive search, professional recruitment and IT outsourcing service provider, will host its third annual Leadership Lecture: Leadership in a Changing World Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at The Carlyle hotel in Manhattan. Political commentator and former Hewlett-Packard (HP) CEO Carly Fiorina will headline the invitation-only event as keynote speaker. Opening remarks begin at 8:15 a.m.
“As a business community, we are facing an IT skills cliff that will exacerbate an already slow recovery. We see it every day in our business”
Taking aim at the challenging economic environment, Fiorina will focus comments on strategies that sustain and strengthen companies in times of economic turmoil including those tested and proven during her reign as head of HP, one of the world’s legendary technology companies. Joining her on the subjects of innovation, competitiveness and job creation, Harvey Nash executives Bob Miano, USA President & CEO, and Albert Ellis, Global CEO, will share the podium providing marketplace data on the looming IT talent war, the unsustainable H1-B visa policy currently in place in the U.S. and an education dilemma that is crying out for business involvement.
“As a business community, we are facing an IT skills cliff that will exacerbate an already slow recovery. We see it every day in our business,” said Harvey Nash USA President & CEO Miano. “If U.S. businesses are going to compete successfully around the globe, we have to help develop innovative educational opportunities for our brightest students and for those workers looking for effective training and advancement opportunities. The severe shortage of technical talent in the U.S. today coupled with the odd connection between the political hot potatoes of immigration and unemployment have created a talent crisis of enormous proportions.”
"Our economy is slowly recovering from the recession,” notes Fiorina. “But growth rates and employment will remain sub-par until we address the structural issues that are holding our economy back. We know we need to tackle tax reform, entitlement reform and deficit reduction. As difficult as these are, they are insufficient. We also need more entrepreneurs to start small businesses and succeed. And we must reform education, immigration and our approach to innovation."
The Harvey Nash USA Leadership Lecture event is a gathering of more than 200 Chief Executive and Chief Information Officers interested in economic news and focused on the role of U.S. business in a global marketplace. Prior keynote speakers include U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry (2012), former U.K. Minister of Trade and Commerce and advisor to Tony Blair, Lord Digby Jones (2011) and International Business Professor at Georgetown University and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce under Ronald Reagan, James P. Moore, Jr. (2011).
